Updates and a Ross Shopping Trip!

Whew! It has been a long month, and we got a lot done (well, not on the blog so much…) We moved from Vegas to Honolulu, rented an apartment, and bought cheap, put-it-together-yourself furniture. It’s finally  feeling like a home! The best news is I have an interview tomorrow for a receptionist position at a salon. I really hope they choose me, I think this would be such a fun job.

I wasn’t able to bring many clothes with me, since it’s so expensive to ship. So this morning I went on a little shopping trip. I needed a sweater and shoes to go with my very cute SimplyVera dress I bought at Saver’s in Vegas. First, I went to the mall down the street from my apartment, no luck there. I was not going to pay $40 for a thin little sweater.

So I went to Ross; I always find something I love there. Here is what I picked up  today. I think I am going to wear the white sweater with the dress to my interview? I like the pink one too, but it seems more casual. Any suggestions?

Pink sweater with silk ruffles for $12.99.

White sweater for $9.99 – I love the ruffle on the back.

This is the SimplyVera dress I picked up at Saver’s.

Pair of black sandals for $16.99

I bought all three pieces for just a few more dollars then I would have paid for the one sweater at the mall. It’s fun to save money!

Question

Do  you think I should wear the pink or white sweater to my interview tomorrow?

Packing for Hawaii

This is my last week of work in Las Vegas! It’s exciting but so sad saying goodbye to all my students. My husband will graduate with his Master’s degree on the 15th and then we will be off.

Since we are moving to an island, we have to get rid of as much stuff as possible. We’ve been listing our furniture on Craigslist and it’s slowly being sold. Unfortunately, this leaves us with no lamps, tables or shelves; everything is on the floor. This picture is our poor apartment. It’s so hard to believe that two years ago, when we moved here, everything we owned fit into our minivan. It’s going to feel good to get rid of all the clutter.

This is Lillian in my clothing bag. She’s ready to go!

I have been looking at pictures of O’ahu and it’s so gorgeous and green. I’m very excited for the move.

Guest Post by Hapari Swimwear

Is the Tankini Phasing Out?

** This guest post is from our friend Hapari swimwear. In a world where swimwear is highly overpriced Hapari is the light at the end of the tunnel. **

If you’ve ever gone to a fashion event or watched the models strut their stuff on the television, you might be thinking that string bikinis are the only swimsuits that will be available this season. If you’re like most women, this thought might fill you with dread, since a string bikini does nothing to support your frame or hide your problem areas. Have no fear. The tankini is still going strong, especially among the ranks of real women who aren’t a size zero.

With a tankini, there are many shaping benefits that aren’t found in other types of women’s swimwear. Tankinis are longer, which means that you can more easily hide any extra stomach fat. If you don’t want to be uncomfortable stretching out to your full height the entire time you’re on the beach, then a tankini is more forgiving of your middle section, letting you relax and breath.

Unlike string bikinis, a tankini is more stable. We’ve all had those fears of going down a water slide and coming up from the water to find that we’ve lost our top along the way. Tankinis have more fabric and less knots that might loosen. If you don’t want to constantly have to readjust, then a tankini is the way to go.
Tankinis are more appropriate for a greater number of events. Whether you’re going to the pool with your family (who wants their mother-in-law to see them flaunt it in a string bikini?) or you have a summer beach party with your boss and coworkers, a tankini is versatile. A string bikini might be great for your significant other, but others might not want to see quite so much of you. Whether you’re going to the water park or running through the sprinklers with your kids, a tankini works for any situation.

Tankinis are just as fashionable as ever before, and they aren’t going away any time soon. If you’re looking for a great suit that will be flattering and stylish, then a tankini is your best option.

Moving to Hawaii and a Winner!

Moving to Hawaii

I have exciting news to announce! My husband has accepted a graduate assistantship at the University of Hawaii in Manoa (on Oahu). He will be getting his Ph.D in music composition. He is a great composer (hear his music at nealfacciuto.wordpress.com), and I am so proud of him and his hard work.

We will probably move in July, and there is so much preparing to do. We decided to sell most of our things because we don’t have anything very nice, and it’s so expensive to ship! Also we have a cat, Lillian, and the process to get her into Hawaii without subjecting her to the quarantine is pretty complicated. There is so much work, but it’s worth it!

I have never been to Hawaii so I’m not sure what to expect. Has anyone visited or lived around the Honolulu area? I would love any advice. I am so excited to get out of Las Vegas, and to go somewhere as beautiful as Hawaii!
